Louey Kachinsky, being an avid fitness enthusiastic give much time to keep himself fit and believe many people don’t think much about the liver – and for a good reason. However, since it’s a vital organ in the body, it makes sense to know more about it. The following are useful insights about the liver.

What is the liver’s function?

You should know that the liver is one of the hardest-working organs since it performs many functions. It removes toxins from the blood stream, processes the nutrients consumed in food, regulates blood composition, breaks down and metabolizes medication, and produces essential proteins.

How can I keep the liver healthy?

Because the liver deals with most of the nutrients we consume, keeping it healthy means eating the right types of food since anything bad you consume has the potential to damage it. Your diet should focus on three things: eating plant-based protein as much as possible, opting for natural foods, and reducing fat.

The best sources of plant-based protein are lentils, legumes, and beans. Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and avoid trans-fats – the kind found in fatty and fried foods.

Even with a healthy diet, it’s important to keep your weight in check. Regular exercise is recommended, as is reducing alcohol intake. Lastly, also avoid abusing over-the-counter medication like painkillers that can cause damage if consumed in large amounts.
